In this comparison, the Hero Passion Plus is the oldest offering by the indigenous company. It has been among the bestselling Hero bikes in the business and the segment.
In contrast, the Shine 100 is the first offering from the Japanese automobile manufacturer, especially after their split with Hero. That said, Honda made a wise call to make a foray into the 100cc segment. Furthermore, these two are locally produced two-wheelers, as a result, they can encounter the conditions of Indian roads with ease.
However, in terms of pricing, there is a huge difference. Despite that, they are more or less the same, as far as features and specifications are concerned. But yes, there are a few offerings that make the Passion Plus command a premium. For your reference, the Honda Shine 100’s price is Rs 64,900, while the Passion Plus has a price tag of Rs 76,301. All are ex-showroom prices, Delhi. If you are a fan of Japanese two-wheelers, check out the curated list of Honda bikes sold in the country.
So, let’s find out the differences, then!
Specifications
Before jumping straight to the figures, let’s start with their chassis. The Hero Passion Plus has underpinnings of a double cradle, which is cost-effective yet robust. On the other hand, the Honda Shine 100 is structured using a tubular frame, which has similar properties to the double cradle frame.
As far as the figures are concerned, both bikes belong to the 100cc segment. Let’s begin with a relatively newer offering, the Honda Shine 100. Its tubular frame supports a 98.98cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which is tuned to churn out 7.28 bhp at 7500 rpm and 8.05 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm.
On the other flip side, the Hero Passion Plus gets in motion by unleashing power from a 97.2cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which produces 7.91 bhp at 8000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm. Atleast you get better power output at the Passion Plus’s price.
Both bikes make their rear wheels spin via a standard four-speed manual transmission.
Moreover, you can expect a better range from the Hero Passion Plus as it has a larger fuel tank capacity of 11 litres, making it 2 litres larger than the Honda Shine 100’s 9-litre tank.
Besides that, the Honda Shine 100 and the Hero Passion Plus have more or less the same suspension setup, which is conventional and widely used by mass-market two-wheeler manufacturers. The Shine 100 stands on telescopic forks at the front, paired with dual shock absorbers at the rear. On the other hand, the Hero Passion Plus also stands on telescopic forks at the front and twin tube suspension at the rear. Considering the Hero Passion Plus’s price, it could have received a better rear suspension, atleast with a nitrogen-filled rear shock absorber.
Given all those and as mentioned earlier, these two bikes are engineered by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. They can easily withstand the undulations and can absorb the bumps from potholes with ease, and that too without letting rider(s) jostle much.

Furthermore, the braking duties are taken care of by standard drum brakes. Neither of the bikes has a disc brake on offer. However, both run on alloy rims. Both have different rims sizes but come with the same tyre profile. That said, their tyre profiles are rated at 80/100. In addition to that, the Passion Plus has 18-inch rims, while the Honda Shine 100 has 17-inch rims. Further, the Hero Passion Plus might offer a marginally lesser comfort level than the Honda Shine 100, as the latter has a slightly smaller rim size.
Features
If a vehicle commands more premium, the customer will expect something more out of it as well. And, that’s tacit. The Hero Passion Plus’s exclusive features include a semi-digital instrument cluster, which has digital readings of an odometer, tripmeter, and fuel gauge. The USB charging port is also exclusive to the Passion Plus.
On the other hand, the Honda Shine 100’s exclusive features comprise under-seat storage, automatic headlights and an analogue instrument cluster. At the Shine 100’s price, a customer shouldn’t expect fancy offerings.
As for the common features, those include a side-stand alarm, a low fuel indicator, kick and electric start, a combined braking system (IBS in Hero’s lingo), and a pillion seat with footrests and grabrails.
